Butthole Surfers set to officially release their previously shelved ‘After the Astronaut’ album.

Butthole Surfers are set to release their long-lost album, *After the Astronaut*, on June 26. This album was recorded as a follow-up to their 1996 hit album, *Electric Larryland*, which featured the popular song “Pepper.” However, the band’s label rejected it, saying it wasn’t “commercial” enough.

After signing with a new label, the band reworked many tracks from the *After the Astronaut* sessions for their 2001 album, *Weird Revolution*, which turned out to be their last studio release. Guitarist Paul Leary shared, “We were excited to make another album after the success of ‘Pepper.’ Capitol Records was on board until our relationship soured.” He added that Hollywood Records bought the album but wanted to make changes, which made the process uncomfortable for the band. Now, they finally have the chance to release the original version as they intended.

Fans can listen to the song “Jet Fighter” from the upcoming album now. Plus, Butthole Surfers will be featured on the soundtrack of the final season of *Stranger Things*, and their name even pops up in a scene from the show. Mark your calendars for June 26 to hear *After the Astronaut*!
