Robert Plant made a surprise appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, turning the segment into a fun celebration of J.R.R. Tolkien. When Colbert asked Plant about living near the famous author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Plant praised Tolkien, saying, “Tolkien was a master.” He then asked Colbert if he had heard Tolkien’s audio recordings.
Colbert, known for his love of Middle-earth, impressed Plant by reciting Tolkien’s writings from memory. Plant, who has referenced The Lord of the Rings in Led Zeppelin lyrics, was clearly impressed and shook Colbert’s hand, saying, “That’s magnificent.”
The two continued to share their favorite Tolkien moments before Plant playfully asked Colbert, “Fancy a drink afterwards?” Plant joked, “I’ve got a spear in the car,” to which Colbert replied, “I’ve got a shield up there.”
In addition to the Tolkien talk, Plant also announced the release of his new album, Saving Grace, which came out in September. Fans of both music and fantasy were treated to a memorable night filled with laughter and nostalgia.
