Drummer Zak Starkey expresses regret over declining the opportunity to support Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath.

Following the passing of Ozzy Osbourne on Tuesday at the age of 76, drummer Zak Starkey expressed his regret about turning down an opportunity to play with the legendary rocker. In an Instagram post, Starkey, known for his work with The Who and Oasis, shared a message he received from Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife.

Sharon reached out to Starkey back when Black Sabbath was looking for a drummer for their performances at Download Festival and Lollapalooza in 2012. She also mentioned they needed a drummer for an album they were working on with producer Rick Rubin, which turned out to be 2013’s “13.” This album became Sabbath’s final release, featuring Brad Wilk from Rage Against The Machine on drums.

Sharon humorously added in her message, “Also, Ozzy wants to have sex with you while he is singing Iron Man.”

Starkey reflected on this missed opportunity, saying, “Regrets I’ve had a few – this is one – (not the sex part!).” He praised Ozzy as one of the greatest singers of all time and sent love and strength to his family during this difficult time.

He also encouraged fans to check out Black Sabbath’s 1978 album “Never Say Die,” calling it “so far out.”
