Green Day’s Road Trip Comedy Movie to Premiere at Toronto Film Festival

Get ready for a wild ride! A new punk comedy called *New Years Rev* is set to hit theaters on September 12. Green Day has teased that this screening is just the beginning of something bigger for their movie. The film pays tribute to classic 1990s road trip flicks.

The story follows The Analog Dogs, a garage band made up of three kids who fall for a prank. They believe they’ll be opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Packed with music, chaos, and surprise guest stars, this film promises a fun adventure. It features over 12 Green Day tracks, drawing inspiration from the band’s early touring days. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong shared, “Van days rule. You drive all night on no sleep, then play a show for 10 kids in a basement 50 miles from anywhere you’ve ever heard of.”

Lee Kirk, who worked with Armstrong on *Ordinary World* in 2016, directs the film. The cast includes Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, McKenna Grace, and Bobby Lee. Armstrong mentioned, “The actors were great. I’ve seen some footage. It’s based on our early adventures, with a few tweaks. It’s gonna be really fun.”

The plot takes the characters on a journey from Kansas to California as they chase their dreams of stardom. The film features real punk rockers in the crowd scenes, with the crew seeking out authentic faces from punk, emo, and hardcore scenes for concert footage.

After the film’s release, Green Day will perform at Riot Fest 2025 in Chicago from September 19 to 21. Other bands on the lineup include Blink-182, Weezer, Jack White, Bad Religion, The Pogues, and The Damned. Stay tuned for more updates and ticket info!
