Shinedown’s latest single, “Searchlight,” has topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, marking the band’s 22nd #1 hit. This achievement extends their record for the most #1 songs in the chart’s 45-year history.
Frontman Brent Smith shared that “Searchlight” is deeply personal. He wrote it after conversations with his son about growing up and turning 18. “This world is waiting for him, but your direction can change at any moment,” Smith explained.
Musically, “Searchlight” stands out in Shinedown’s catalog with its country influences. Smith noted that the song evolved during the recording process. “The demo was different. I knew it wanted to be something else,” he said. After reworking the vocals with bassist Eric Bass, they found the right sound.
Despite its country vibe, Smith clarified that Shinedown isn’t shifting genres. They have no plans for a country album, and there won’t be another song like “Searchlight” on their upcoming album, EI8HT. “It’s something we’ve worked really hard at to say: Shinedown is for everyone,” he added.
EI8HT is set to release on May 29 and will feature other singles like “Dance, Kid, Dance,” “Three Six Five,” and “Killing Fields.” Fans can look forward to more great music from Shinedown!
