On Saturday May 27th, the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing hosted Philly’s first annual Hoagie Nation festival.

The lineup included Allen Stone, Kandace Springs, Tears For Fears, and Philly artists Schoolly D, Mutlu, In the Pocket, Son Little, Marah, Vivian Green, and G Love & Special Sauce leading up to Philly’s famous duo Hall & Oates.

Schoolly D opened the festival on the South Philly Stage with those memorable early 80’s rap hits, like ‘Gucci Time’, ‘PSK, What Does it Mean?’, and ‘Saturday Night’.  He even did his original theme to “Aqua Teen Hunger Force’

Allen Stone was the first performer on the North Philly stage.  He and Tears for Fears are currently on tour with Daryl Hall & John Oates.  Stone was just on stage with an electric guitar and really got the crowd into it.

A real stand out was Marah.  Their rock show definitely had the most energy of any of the performers of the day.   Their set included a song about fishing on the Delaware ‘The Catfisherman’ and a cover of ‘Love Train’ by The O’Jays.  These guys will be playing again in Conshohocken Music Festival on June 24, 2017.  You won’t want to miss them.  Details and tickets for the Conshohocken Music Festival are available for purchase online

Lorde’s studio cover of Everybody Wants to Rule the World played through the speakers introducing Tears For Fears who played at the South Philly Stage. The duo exploded with energy as they opened with their hit Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Their set included fan favorites such as “Mad World,” “Sowing the Seeds of Love,” and “Head Over Heels.” As well as a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.” Band member Roland Orzabal expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the hometown of Hall & Oates. He stated that it was a nice change to play outside with a view of Philadelphia instead of the inside of a dark stadium. The band was cheered back onto the stage for an encore performance and they closed with their hit “Shout.”

Hundreds of fans crowded around the main stage where Hall & Oates performed. The band opened their set with “Family Man.” They greeted their fans and explained their goal of celebrating all things Philly, including our mutual love of “cold meat and Amoroso’s rolls.” Their set was full of hits such as “Out of Touch,” “She’s Gone,” “Sara Smile,” and “I Can’t Go For That.” They played a full set as well as a lengthy five song encore leading with “Rich Girl,” and closing the night with a cover of “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time).”
