Ice Nine Kills has just released a new single titled “The Laugh Track.” This track pays tribute to the Joker, focusing on Jack Nicholson’s iconic portrayal in the 1989 Batman film.
Frontman Spencer Charnas shared his thoughts, saying, “Why be a brooding bat when you can have the last laugh? After all, Jack Nicholson got top billing in Batman ’89.” He added that while Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne is impressive, he was always more drawn to the Clown Prince of Crime.
Charnas describes “The Laugh Track” as a nod to Tim Burton’s dark and beautiful Gotham. He notes that Batman ’89 took its comic book roots seriously but still had fun, which is similar to the vibe Ice Nine Kills aims for in their music.
The music video for “The Laugh Track” is now available on YouTube. In the video, Charnas takes on the role of the Joker, and there are special appearances by actors Matthew Lillard and Phil Morris, who brings back his famous character, lawyer Jackie Chiles from Seinfeld.
This release is the second new song from Ice Nine Kills in 2025, following their Matrix-inspired track “The Great Unknown.” Be sure to check out the video, but be warned—it contains uncensored profanity!
