Kerry King of Slayer is stirring up the ongoing rivalry between Metallica and Megadeth. In a recent interview with Reigning Phoenix Music, King made it clear he’s on Team Metallica. When asked to choose between James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine, he picked Hetfield, saying, “Sorry Dave, I know I played in your band, but I’m going with James.”
King briefly played with Megadeth in 1984. Mustaine started Megadeth in 1983 after being fired from Metallica. After ranking Hetfield over Mustaine, King was asked to choose between the two bands. He again sided with Metallica, stating, “I’m gonna be brutally honest. Metallica has a singer. Sorry, Dave.”
Fans will soon hear Mustaine’s take on Metallica when Megadeth releases their upcoming farewell album. This record will feature a cover of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning.” The self-titled album is set to drop on January 23, 2026. Stay tuned for more updates!
