Mark Knopfler’s second solo album, *Sailing To Philadelphia*, is getting a reissue! On September 26, fans can grab this 2000 release in several formats, including its first-ever clear vinyl pressing.
A special SDE Blu-ray edition is also available for pre-order. It features a new ATMOS mix by Guy Fletcher, along with ATMOS instrumentals and the original stereo mixes. Knopfler recorded the album in Nashville, co-producing it with Chuck Ainlay.
*Sailing To Philadelphia* includes guest appearances from big names like James Taylor, Van Morrison, Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, and the duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. The album features the hit single “What It Is,” which did well on Billboard’s Adult Alternative chart. Taylor sings on the title track, while Morrison joins Knopfler for the beautiful “The Last Laugh.”
Rolling Stone praised the album for capturing “the grandeur of prime Dire Straits.” Released four years after Knopfler’s debut solo album, *Golden Heart*, and following his work on soundtracks for *Wag the Dog* and *Metroland*, *Sailing To Philadelphia* is a fan favorite. It topped the charts in Germany, Italy, Norway, and Switzerland and is certified double Platinum in Europe, with Gold certifications in the U.S. and U.K.
Mark Knopfler, born in Glasgow and raised near Newcastle, is known worldwide for his guitar skills and songwriting, both as a solo artist and as the frontman of Dire Straits. In 2024, he will release his 10th solo album, *One Deep River*. Don’t miss out on this reissue of *Sailing To Philadelphia*!
