Mastodon Honors Brent Hinds in Emotional Tribute at First Concert After Guitarist’s Passing

Mastodon paid tribute to their late guitarist Brent Hinds during their first show since his passing on August 20. At the end of their performance at the Alaska State Fair, drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor addressed the crowd, sharing the band’s deep loss.

“We lost somebody very special to us,” Dailor said. “Brent Hinds was with us for 25 years as our guitar player. He was one of the most creative and beautiful people we’ve ever known. It’s a tragic loss, and we loved him so, so much.”

Hinds was a founding member of Mastodon and played alongside Dailor, guitarist Bill Kelliher, and bassist Troy Sanders throughout the band’s entire career. In March 2025, the band announced they had “mutually decided to part ways” with Hinds. Despite some tensions after his departure, Dailor reflected on their long relationship.

“We had the ups and downs of a 25-year relationship,” he said. “It wasn’t always perfect, but we were brothers to the end. We made a lot of beautiful music together.”

Dailor expressed the band’s heartbreak, saying, “We’re absolutely devastated to lose him and to know we can never have him back. But you all made it okay for us to come on stage tonight.”

After the concert, Mastodon thanked their fans on Facebook, saying, “Alaska, thanks for showing up and lifting our spirits. You were exactly what we needed.
