Alice in Chains is being asked to make a unique change for a good cause. PETA has sent a letter asking the band to temporarily change their name to “Betty in Chains” to raise awareness for a circus elephant named Betty.
Betty is a 56-year-old elephant who has been performing in circuses for nearly twenty years. Despite her age and health issues, she is forced to perform at hundreds of shows each year. PETA’s Senior Vice President of Communications, Lisa Lange, expressed concern for Betty, stating, “Every day that passes with her being hauled from town to town brings her closer to the brink of death.”
PETA hopes that by changing their name, Alice in Chains can help spread the message to avoid animal-abusing circuses. This isn’t the first time PETA has made such a request. They previously asked Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to change his name to “Robert Plant Wool” to promote animal-free and plastic-free yarns.
It will be interesting to see if Alice in Chains takes up this challenge and how fans will respond. The band has a strong following, and this name change could shine a light on Betty’s situation and the treatment of animals in entertainment. Stay tuned for updates!
