America’s 250th birthday is just around the corner, and Philadelphia is gearing up for a big celebration! To get everyone involved, the city is inviting locals to help share its story. One standout Philly native, Nadira Tarboro from Southwest Philadelphia, is making headlines as the city’s 5,000th “Phambassador.”
This volunteer role was created to promote Philadelphia during the 250th birthday celebrations in 2026. The Philadelphia Visitor Center started the “Phambassador” program to welcome visitors and highlight the city’s positive stories. Nadira, who owns the Philadelphia Candle Company, is excited to represent her hometown. She’s lived in Philadelphia her whole life and didn’t even know she was the 5,000th volunteer when she signed up.
“I think we often hear about the negative things in Philadelphia,” Nadira said. “But there are so many amazing things happening here, and we need to share that.”
Nadira was celebrated at Reading Terminal Market, where she received a gift card and an 18-pound ham. “Philadelphia is shining brightly today as we honor our 5,000th Phambassador, Nadira Tarboro. Congratulations!” said Kathryn Ott Lovell, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation.
The city plans to recruit 10,000 Phambassadors for the 2026 celebrations. If you want to join in, head to the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation’s website and sign a pledge to represent Philly with pride!
