Soft Cell is set to release a super deluxe reissue of their iconic 1983 album, The Art of Falling Apart. This English synth-pop duo will offer a 6CD edition packed with bonus material, along with 2CD and 2LP versions. This follows their 2023 reissue of their debut album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret.
The 6CD box set will come in a stylish 10”x10” package. It includes the remastered main album, bonus 12” tracks, B-sides, rarities, remixes, instrumentals, new remixes, live TV performances, and a full disc of demos. The set also features a hardback book, notes from journalist Adrian Thrills, and photos by longtime collaborator Peter Ashworth. The 2CD and 2LP editions will highlight key tracks from the 6CD set, with the LP pressed on colored vinyl.
The Art of Falling Apart was Soft Cell’s follow-up to their hit “Tainted Love,” which topped the charts in the UK. Produced by Mike Thorne and the duo, the album includes hits like “Where the Heart Is” and “Numbers,” named after a John Rechy novel. It also features “Martin,” inspired by the George Romero film, which AllMusic called “epic.” Fans will remember the “Hendrix Medley” from the original bonus 12” that included synth-pop versions of “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” and “Voodoo Chile.”
Soft Cell, formed in Leeds in 1978 by Marc Almond and David Ball, revolutionized minimal synth-pop and became a staple in dance clubs and on radio. Their music blends electronic pop with Northern soul and American blues.
