Tall Ship Kalmar Nyckel Offers Fall River Cruises in Wilmington

This October, the Kalmar Nyckel, a tall ship in Delaware, is hosting family-friendly river cruises along Wilmington’s Riverfront. Join the fun on Saturdays, including special trips on Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25. Don’t miss the Halloween Ghost Ship tour on Oct. 18!

Tickets are $45 for adults and $25 for kids under 12. Each cruise can hold up to 49 passengers, so it’s a good idea to reserve your spot. You can book through the Kalmar Nyckel website or by calling 302-429-7447. Remember, all sailings depend on the weather.

Cruises leave from the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard at 1124 E. Seventh St. in Wilmington. Each 1.5-hour trip offers a real sailing experience on a full-scale replica of the ship that brought European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. Guests can help with sailing activities or just kick back and take in the views. Kids can enjoy scavenger hunts and pirate storytelling.

During the week, the ship serves as a floating classroom, teaching over 13,000 students each year about maritime science and sailing. The Kalmar Nyckel, launched in 1997, is maintained by professional officers and over 200 trained volunteers who share the ship’s history and seafaring traditions.

The nonprofit Kalmar Nyckel Foundation also offers educational programs, private charters, and year-round events at the Tatiana and Gerret Copeland Maritime Center in Wilmington. Don’t miss out on this unique experience!
