The Verve Releases Exclusive Rare Live Concert Footage from 1998

The Verve have released three rare live recordings from their iconic 1998 concert at Haigh Hall in Wigan, their hometown. These clips, shared earlier this month, are the first videos on their official YouTube channel in years. The show, held on May 24, 1998, drew over 30,000 fans and is now considered one of the band’s most memorable performances.

This concert came just a year after the release of their hit album, Urban Hymns, which included popular tracks like “Sonnet” and “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” In February 1999, “Bitter Sweet Symphony” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song. Unfortunately, the band disbanded later that year due to internal issues. Although they have reunited several times, they have been apart since the release of their album Forth in 2008.

The new clips feature live performances of “Sonnet” and “Space And Time” from Urban Hymns, along with “This Is Music” from their second album, A Northern Soul. These uploads follow the announcement that Urban Hymns will be reissued on vinyl later this year.

Lead singer Richard Ashcroft, who has been a solo artist since 2000, recently joined Oasis on their reunion tour, performing with the Gallagher brothers in the UK and Ireland.

Fans can now enjoy these new live recordings and look forward to the vinyl reissue of Urban Hymns.
