This Day in Rock History: November 6

Nov. 6 is a big day for rock fans. We celebrate the first shows of Aerosmith and The Sex Pistols. Plus, The Rolling Stones and Meat Loaf also had important moments on this day. Let’s look at some key events in rock history.

Breakthrough Hits and Milestones

Several famous artists hit major milestones on Nov. 6:

1965: The Rolling Stones scored a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “Get Off of My Cloud.” This song followed the success of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and topped charts in the U.K., Germany, and Canada.

1993: Meat Loaf achieved his first No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” This track was from his album Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell and became a global hit, reaching the top in over two dozen countries.

Notable Recordings and Performances

Nov. 6 marks two historic performances:

1970: Aerosmith played their first-ever show at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts. Guitarist Joe Perry’s mother helped set up this gig.

1975: The Sex Pistols made their live debut at London’s Saint Martin’s School of Art, opening for Bazooka Joe. Their entire set lasted just 10 minutes.

1995: Queen released their final album with Freddie Mercury. The album came out posthumously, using recordings Mercury made before his passing in 1991.

From early gigs to chart-toppers, Nov. 6 has seen many important rock moments. Check back tomorrow for more memorable events in rock history.
