In 1961, “Hit the Road Jack,” one of Ray Charles’ most famous songs, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, staying there for two weeks. This was Charles’ second chart-topper after “Georgia on My Mind,” and it later earned him a GRAMMY for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording.

In 1971, Rod Stewart achieved his first U.K. No. 1 single with “Maggie May,” which topped the charts for five weeks.
