On this day, several significant songs were released. In 1964, the Beach Boys dropped their surf-inspired hit, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1979, Blondie’s song hit No. 1 on the U.K. charts and was later inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2015. David Bowie released his 21st studio album, *Earthling*, in 1997, which peaked at No. 6 in the U.K. and included a couple of Top 40 hits.
