Type O Negative is working on a new live album that will feature the voice of their late frontman, Peter Steele. Guitarist Kenny Hickey shared, “We’re actually working on a live album right now. Yeah, we’re in the mixing process…working on the artwork now.” This will be the first official music release since Steele’s passing in 2010.
Peter Steele was known for his deep, powerful voice and towering 6’7″ frame, which became a defining part of the band’s sound. Type O Negative formed in Brooklyn in 1990, with Steele on bass and vocals, Hickey on guitar, Josh Silver on keyboards, and Sal Abruscato on drums, later replaced by Johnny Kelly.
The band rose to fame with their 1993 album, *Bloody Kisses*, followed by *October Rust*, *World Coming Down*, and *Life Is Killing Me*. Before Type O, Steele played in bands like Fallout and Carnivore. He was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk in Brooklyn and passed away at 48 due to an infection.
The band is planning a tribute show in Steele’s memory, but Josh Silver is unlikely to join them, as he has retired from music and is now a paramedic in New York City.
Despite the years, new fans continue to discover Type O Negative’s unique sound. This upcoming live album will give both longtime fans and newcomers a taste of what made the band special during metal’s golden age. Keep an eye out for their albums and merch to celebrate their legacy!
