Vince Gill’s ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ Achieves Double-Platinum Certification

Just a month after its 30th anniversary, Vince Gill’s beloved song “Go Rest High on that Mountain” has been certified double-platinum by the RIAA. The song won two Grammys in 1996 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song, along with a CMA Award for Song of the Year. The following year, it also received BMI’s Most Performed Song award.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Gill released an extended version of the song that features a new verse. He recorded this version using all the original tracks, adding only his vocals for the new part. Gill was inspired to write the song after the death of his friend, country singer Keith Whitley. He completed it after the passing of his brother Bob in 1993.

In 2019, during a Christmas performance with his wife Amy Grant, Gill performed the song with the new verse. “For the last thirty years, I’ve felt like something was missing from this song,” Gill said. “With this new third verse, I finally feel like the song is complete.”

Earlier this month, Gill performed “Go Rest High on that Mountain” with Lainey Wilson during the In Memoriam segment at the 77th Emmy Awards. He recently wrapped up a tour with over 30 shows, ending with five sold-out nights at the Ryman Auditorium. His performances, which often lasted three hours, were praised for his musicianship, humor, and storytelling.

Now, Gill has re-joined the Eagles for their return to the Sphere in Las Vegas. Be sure to check out the extended version of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” now!
