5 Seconds of Summer has just released “NOT OK,” their first new single in three years. This track gives fans a sneak peek of their upcoming sixth album, Everyone’s a Star!, which will drop on November 14. Luke Hemmings described the song as having the classic 5 Seconds of Summer vibe but with a fresh twist.
The band drew inspiration from The Prodigy and N.E.R.D. for this high-energy tune, featuring powerful cymbals, dance-ready beats, and strong vocals. Lyrically, “NOT OK” explores embracing the darker sides of ourselves and reflects the band’s dynamic. Luke mentioned, “We pull those sides out of each other.”
Everyone’s a Star! follows their 2022 album, 5SOS5, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and included hits like “Complete Mess” and “Take My Hand.” Luke shared that the new album captures the essence of their early days while incorporating the wisdom they’ve gained over the years. He said, “We were teenagers at the beginning of 5 Seconds of Summer. This record has more of our original spirit, but with 15 years of experience.”
Last August, the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of their debut album with special vinyl reissues. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, 5 Seconds of Summer consists of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin.
Check out “NOT OK” now and get ready for Everyone’s a Star!
