Jimmy Eat World: Band Announces Album & Releases 1st Single & Lyric Video

The follow-up to 2013’s ‘Damage’ reportedly is due to arrive on October 21.

Iconic emo-punk rockers Jimmy Eat World, whose anthems like “Sweetness,” “The Middle,” “A Praise Chorus” and “Pain” were seminal tracks of the early aughts, have returned after three years with a new single, “Get Right” off their new album due out in October. The new single premiered on Daniel Carter’s BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show on August 21, and frontman Jim Adkins revealed in an interview preceding the premiere that the new album — their ninth — has been in the works since last November, when the group teamed up with producer Justin Meldal-Johnson in Los Angeles. The producer is probably best known for his work with French electronica groups Air and M83.

Though the new track is reminiscent of their early work (a little melancholy and full of cathartic angst), Adkins said in the interview that the group did some soul-searching after a brief hiatus and looked at new ways to problem-solve in the studio. “I think [the new album] helped us get in touch with things as people. I’m willing to check my ego,” he explained. The frontman also says that some of the recording elements were spontaneous and that, “It feels like a long time coming.”

In September, they are scheduled for a European tour before heading back to the States for Riot Fest in Chicago.
