What’s happening

Tracking is officially underway for Slipknot's upcoming eighth studio album, with guitarist Jim Root confirming recent studio sessions via social media updates tagged "#newrecord."

Working alongside producer Matt Wallace (Faith No More,Mushroomhead),the masked metal titans entered the studio after amassing around 50 song ideas earlier this summer.

The forthcoming full-length marks a pivotal transition for the Iowa collective:

It serves as their first album since parting ways with longtime turntablist Sid Wilson.

It will be the band's first official studio release featuring powerhouse drummer Eloy Casagrande,who joined the lineup in 2024.

Former Butcher Babies vocalist Carla Harvey and Anthrax/Pantera drummer Charlie Benante have unleashed the official music video for "Screenager," the latest single from their heavy rock group, The Violent Hour.

Originally issued last month, the track matches raw, commanding vocal hooks with driving aggression and a blistering guest solo by guitarist Attila Vörös. Lyrically, the song tackles the numbing effect of screen addiction, curated digital personas, and online cruelty.

Harvey broke down the message behind the track:

"We wanted to write something that felt as relentless as the endless scroll. Musically, 'Screenager' channels the aggression and energy of early Metallica but opens up into huge, soaring melodic choruses. Lyrically, it's about how we've traded genuine human connection for digital validation, and how anonymity has fueled a growing lack of empathy by making cruelty feel consequence-free. We're more connected than ever, yet somehow we've never felt further apart."

Following their recent set at Rocklahoma, Harvey's all-woman touring lineup—featuring guitarists Kiana De León and Allie Kay, bassist Jewel Steele, and drummer Sasha De León—is set to hit the festival circuit with appearances at Louder Than Life on September 17 and Aftershock on October 1.

Shinedown bassist and producer Eric Bass offered a deeply candid and vulnerable update on his ongoing mental health journey during the latest episode of the Talk O'Tuesdays podcast.

Bass stepped away from Shinedown's late summer 2026 Dance, Kid, Dance Act II tour in July after suffering what he described as a serious mental health crash. Reflecting on his current state while undergoing talk therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Bass spoke openly about the frustration of feeling unproductive and the deep emotional toll the process has taken:

"I feel like I've done this big circle and there were moments of revelation and stuff that was great and felt better, and then I've arrived right back kind of where I was... I feel like I'm wearing an uncomfortable suit all the time. And I'm trying to navigate a world where I don't feel... I feel out of place. I don't feel like I belong."

When asked how his battle has affected his spiritual life, Bass explained that it has tested his faith in ways he never anticipated:

"It's been really challenging for my faith journey, to be honest with you. And I haven't abandoned it, of course. And I still believe... It's the literal definition of practicing faith, because right now I don't feel close to God. I don't have the warm and fuzzy, and I feel like it's in the desert, but I feel like I've been in the desert, and I'm ready to come out of the desert, and I'm ready for God to carry me a little bit, just for a second... I mean just emotionally."

While Josh Sturm and Zack Mack have been holding down bass duties on the road, Bass emphasized how grateful he is for the overwhelming outpouring of fan support and reiterated the importance of asking for help:

"I did something I'd never done before in my 51 years on earth, is I reached out to someone and I said, 'I can't do this on my own, and I need help.' And it led to some healing that I'm going through right now. It's not an easy thing to do, to ask for help, but it has to be done."

Speaking with the JJO Discover New Music Podcast, Motionless In White frontman Chris "Motionless" Cerulli opened up about the creation of the band's latest album, Decades, and why he holds it in higher regard than any past release.

Now out for over a month via Roadrunner Records, Decades arrived after nearly three years of dedicated writing and recording alongside longtime co-producer Drew Fulk and Justin "JD" deBlieck:

"I wasn’t willing to accept anything that wasn’t, like, 'This has to be 100% what the vision is, and I’m gonna chase it until... It doesn’t matter if it takes five years. I’m going for it.' And it took two and a half to three years, and here we are. And I think that it’s because we spent that time on it that I look at it and I love it more than the other records. And it’s not just 'cause it’s new. It’s 'cause there’s nothing I would go back and change for the first time ever, and that’s a pretty cool way to feel afterwards."

Cerulli noted that having the freedom to take their time—a lesson reinforced during the pandemic—was the "special sauce" for the record. With guest features from Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Skylar Grey, and Dark Divine's Anthony Martinez, Cerulli compared the collaborative process with his close friends to a triumphant "Marvel endgame" celebration marking two decades of the group's history.

He also credited the band’s enduring fan base, many of whom have followed them from tiny 500-cap clubs all the way to headlining Red Rocks on their recent Sweat and Blood Tour:

"The fans are very obviously the people that put you where you are. And when you have a band like us or a band with a cult following, the most rewarding thing you could see is people sticking with you. Even if they didn't like a record you put out, they're still gonna support you because they believe in your band, and they'll give you that forgiveness and push you through, and it's awesome."

The rock and professional wrestling communities are in mourning following the sudden death of former Every Time I Die guitarist Andy Williams, who passed away at age 48 after suffering a medical emergency during a wrestling match on September 5.

Members across the band's history have shared deeply moving tributes, remembering Williams not only for his crushing riffs and larger-than-life presence, but for his boundless kindness, humor, and ability to connect with everyone he met.

Former guitarist Jordan Buckley reflected on their nearly three decades together:

"Today is the saddest day of my entire life... Everything you read about him is true. I’ll cherish every minute we spent together, regret every minute we didn’t, and promise to spend the rest of my life being more like him. We all should. I love you so much Andy... I’ll see you in everything forever."

Bassist Stephen Micciche honored his longtime friend and bandmate, noting Williams' rare gift for making everyone feel valued:

"Andy was a lot of incredible things. But his true gift, almost cheat code like, was next level excelling at everything he put his creative mind and energy to, the infectious passion that he carried with it, always moving forward, & how he made everyone feel welcome & loved around him no matter who you were... Andy, I love you. Life will never be the same. Thank you for making me & many others better people for knowing you."

Drummer Clayton “Goose” Holyoak remembered his relentless drive to chase his dreams:

"You were a true example of kindness with a beautiful mix of chaos and adventure... You wanted to do the things that couldn’t be done. Anything you put your mind to you would attain. You showed us how to live life to the fullest and I was lucky enough to be in the seat with you."

Former frontman Keith Buckley shared a heartfelt message reading, "I love you, Big Man," while former bassist Josh Newton added: "Until next time. Tell your friends you love them. He did." Ex-drummer Daniel Davison also remembered Williams' magic on and off stage, calling him "one of the most kind and special people I’ve ever known."

Disturbed frontman David Draiman opened up about how his Jewish heritage, family background, and vocal activism have shaped his career in an in-depth conversation on The Brink podcast with host Andrew Fox.

Coming from a family of Holocaust survivors—with maternal grandparents who survived Auschwitz and Dachau—Draiman noted that defending the Jewish people has always been deeply personal, inspiring Disturbed tracks like "Never Again":

"It's a call to arms for our people. It's a refusal to back down. It's a refusal to cower in the face of adversity and in the face of the most dangerous bullies in existence... And believe me, in today's environment it would be a lot easier to not have the association. It's a burden to carry that a lot of people don't realize... I can't be the ostrich. I can't put my head in the sand. I can't pretend that the world isn't on fire around me."

Draiman also discussed the impact his outspoken stance can have on the band, expressing deep gratitude for the support of his bandmates:

"The greatest reservation and the greatest guilt that I carry isn't even from my family regarding all of this. It's for my brothers in the band who have to bear a burden that has really little to do with them other than the fact that I am their friend, and I appreciate immensely that they've been as supportive as they have been. And it hasn't been easy, and there have been conversations."

Ultimately, the singer emphasized that his convictions come down to teaching his son resilience and integrity, adding that standing by his principles matters far more than career calculations or chasing status as "the next Metallica."

Jelly Roll has had his invitation formally withdrawn from performing at the Big Blue Bash, an annual benefit for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Foundation held at Mar-a-Lago, following jokes he made while guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Kyle S. Reyes, owner of The Police Tribune and an organizer of the event, announced the decision in a statement on X, criticizing the musician's remarks:

"What I saw last week with this self-absorbed ‘artist’ bashing President Trump and Conservatives was not a man who walks in the footsteps of Jesus Christ – it was a man desperately seeking attention and relevancy from the very Godless crowd that has categorically rejected his preaching."

While an invitation had been extended to Jelly Roll on April 26, it remains unclear whether the artist had ever formally accepted the booking. Reyes stated that country singer Coffey Anderson will now perform in his place. This year's "American Superheroes"-themed event is slated to include appearances by Lou Ferrigno, Dean Cain, and Kevin Sorbo.

During his guest-hosting stint, Jelly Roll made several lighthearted cracks regarding Trump's weight and the economy, but concluded his final evening with a bipartisan call for unity:

"Human dignity isn’t Republican nor Democrat. Compassion isn’t left-wing, and mercy isn’t right-wing. Pain and healing knows no partisanship. Hurting hearts are more important than poll numbers, and there are no boundaries or borders for broken families... We may disagree. We may argue. We may vote completely differently.
