Josh Freese has broken his silence regarding his May 2025 firing from the Foo Fighters, describing the exit as a total surprise that happened while he was out with friends from A Perfect Circle and Primus. In a cover story for the latest issue of Modern Drummer, Freese admitted he still doesn't have official clarity on why Dave Grohl decided to go in a "different direction," noting that just days before being let go, he was receiving nothing but praise on stage. "I think I'm a pretty good read on people, and I did not see that coming," Freese noted, adding that while the band was generous to him for two years, the relationship changed abruptly.
