Today we celebrate the 54th birthday of Mike Dirnt, the powerhouse bassist and co-founder of Green Day. Born Michael Ryan Pritchard on May 4, 1972, Dirnt has spent over three decades as the rhythmic backbone of the punk rock movement. From the frantic, walking basslines of Dookie to the massive, stadium-sized anthems of American Idiot, his distinctive tone and melodic sensibility helped propel Green Day to over 75 million records sold worldwide.

It continues to be a busy year for the rock icon. Recently, Dirnt was seen performing with The Coverups at a special afterparty for the Notes & Words event at the Fox Theater in Oakland. In a rare positive turn of events for touring musicians, Josey Scott (formerly of Saliva) has confirmed that his band’s stolen trailer and equipment have been recovered in their entirety. The gear, which Scott previously noted contained "years' worth of equipment," was stolen last week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following an investigation by the Tulsa Police Department, a suspect is now in custody and all guitars, basses, drums, and amps have been returned to the band intact.

Scott released an emotional statement expressing his gratitude to the detectives involved and the rock community at large. While the gear was missing, fellow rockers Shinedown and their bassist Eric Bass immediately organized replacement gear to keep Scott’s tour on track. Other industry peers, including Brian “Head” Welch of Korn, Kevin Martin of Candlebox, and Deryck Whibley of Sum 41, also reached out to offer assistance. Because the original equipment was recovered, Scott announced that all donations made to a recently launched GoFundMe campaign will be fully refunded to fans.

“This was a powerful reminder of how strong this community is,” Scott said. “From law enforcement to fellow artists to the fans—everyone showed up. We’re incredibly grateful.” With the gear back in their possession and the replacement equipment being returned to Shinedown, Scott and his band are moving forward with their current tour schedule as planned.
