William Shatner is preparing to boldly go where he has never gone before—fronting a heavy metal band—but not before festival organizers meet his strict conditions. The 95-year-old Canadian Star Trek legend is slated to debut his new metal project, *The uckers, at this September's Riot Fest in Chicago, but he has reportedly sent the independently-owned festival a long rider filled with outlandish demands.

Organizers for the three-day music festival have spent years sending letters to the entertainer in a relentless campaign to get him on the bill. Shatner finally agreed, stating in a video message that he decided to debut his new heavy metal record at the event because the promoters were such big fans.

Now, they just have to accommodate his massive rider. The leaked requirements list demands split between the festival and the city of Chicago itself, including:

For the City: Renaming a local boat in his honor so he can captain a ship again, and co-anchoring the weather outside with Chicago's most beloved meteorologist.

For the Performance: Replacing his artist golf cart with a DeLorean, securing an introduction video created by GWAR, and hiring "many" fire breathers.

For Hospitality: Dressing room themed as "Shatner's Shag Shack," four feet of Polish sausage, eight pallets of Faygo (strictly "not to be shared with Insane Clown Posse"), and an assortment of adoptable puppies from a local rescue.

While the specifics of the extensive backstage conditions are wild, Shatner's ambitious new musical venture is already turning heads. The sci-fi icon has assembled a serious backing band for the festival, bringing together former Ozzy Osbourne bassist Phil Soussan, Vixen guitarist Britt Lightning, flamenco guitarist Marcus Nand, and Powerflo drummer Fred Aching.

The band plans to debut new original heavy metal material and reimagine songs from Shatner's past albums. Riot Fest runs from September 18th to 20th—assuming the festival can fulfill the Captain's outlandish requests!

Mötley Crüe officially kicked off their highly anticipated "The Return Of Carnival Of Sins" tour on Friday night, July 17th, at the Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. Produced by Live Nation, the massive 33-city trek pulls double duty, celebrating both the 20th anniversary of the band's legendary 2005-2006 "Carnival Of Sins" tour and the rock icons' landmark 45th anniversary. Hard rock powerhouses Extreme and Tesla are providing support across the run.

True to bassist Nikki Sixx's recent promises to "salt and pepper" the set with deeper cuts, the opening night setlist shook things up for the diehard fans. While staples like "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Kickstart My Heart" kept the energy high, the band surprised the crowd by performing "Afraid" for the first time since 2012. The setlist also carried over several massive rarities debuted earlier this month at the Rockin' Thunder festival in Winnipeg, including "Take Me To The Top" (unplayed from 1984 until this summer), "Red Hot," "Louder Than Hell," and "Too Young To Fall In Love".

Poppy’s scheduled performance at the annual Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, left many fans in attendance confused on Friday, July 17th. While the alternative metal artist herself never took to the stage, her masked backing bandmates did, delivering an entirely instrumental set while wearing respiratory breathing masks for protection.

It was later revealed by Poppy on social media that her absence was due to dangerously poor air quality in the city. Grand Rapids has been hit particularly hard by heavy smoke wafting over the U.S. border from raging wildfires in Southeastern Canada.

In a statement shared via her Instagram stories, Poppy explained her difficult decision to sit out the performance:

"Hi Upheaval
Due to “hazardous” AQI reaching 350+ around our set time I was unable to join my band on stage. I was unable to breathe in those conditions. You might ‘ve noticed our set was instrumental only. For those who braved the conditions- I applaud you."

The debut single from With A Vengeance, titled "Shared Light," has officially premiered online. The new outfit was formed by former Bad Wolves members Tommy Vext (vocals) and Chris Cain (guitars). The project originally spawned after a failed attempt by Vext and Cain to purchase the rights to the Bad Wolves name for an intended relaunch of that band.

Moving forward under the new moniker, the pair assembled a powerhouse backing lineup to round out the band's official roster. Joining Vext and Cain are renowned virtuoso guitarist Angel Vivaldi, drummer Austin D’Amond (known for his work in Chimaira, Bleed The Sky, and Verona On Venus), and bassist Xander Raymond Charles.

To complement the proper introduction of the band, a cinematic music video for "Shared Light" has been released, directed by Shane Hansen.

The Pretty Reckless frontwoman Taylor Momsen has shared a deeply emotional statement on Instagram mourning the tragic passing of her longtime bodyguard, confidant, and close friend, Mason Haynes. According to an online memorial fundraiser, Haynes recently passed away following a traffic accident at the age of 52.

"Mason Haynes was my family, my protector, my confidant and one of my closest friends," Momsen wrote, reflecting on the profound, unique bond formed over years of constant companionship on the road. "When someone knows every dark secret about you and never judges, spends 24 hours a day with you seven days a week, you form a bond that is hard to explain."

Momsen remembered Haynes not just for his protective role, but for his deep character, intellect, and personal values. "He was a powerful giant with the softest heart of anyone I knew," she continued. "Smart as a whip, artistic and most importantly he was always putting others needs first. His advocacy against bullying ran deep within him. I will miss him in a way I can’t explain."

In addition to sharing her love and condolences with Haynes' family, Momsen has urged anyone who is able to donate to a GoFundMe campaign established to honor his memory and support his loved ones.

"I love you Mason, I can’t believe I’ll never hear your voice again," Momsen added. "You were truly one of a kind."

The city of Birmingham, UK, has officially announced the first-ever "Ozzy Day" on Wednesday, July 22nd, to honor the life, music, and roots of the late Ozzy Osbourne. The pioneering Black Sabbath frontman and Aston-born rock legend tragically passed away one year ago on July 22nd, 2025, at the age of 76. To celebrate his enduring legacy, a free public program of live music, public art, special performances, and shared moments will transform locations across the city center into a living memorial. The event is a massive collaborative effort between Central BID, OPUS, the Birmingham City Council, Birmingham New Street, and Westside BID.

Fans and visitors can explore iconic landmarks tied to Ozzy's history using Central BID's "Celebrating Black Sabbath in the City" trail map. The five-piece brass band Bostin Brass—who performed at Ozzy's funeral procession last year—will bring the music of Sabbath and Ozzy back to the streets with pop-up shows at New Street Station, outside the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Selfridges, the Black Sabbath Bench, and Martineau Place. Additionally, musicians from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) will deliver a special lunchtime performance outside Selfridges in the Bullring.

Throughout the day, visitors can capture the moment with free commemorative Polaroid photos alongside a specially dressed "Ozzy the Bull" at Birmingham New Street Station. The Birmingham Music Archive will also be stationed at New Street to invite fans to contribute their personal stories, memories, and reflections to a commemorative guestbook that will become part of the day's lasting legacy. Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has confirmed that the metal titans are currently in the studio working with renowned producer Matt Wallace on their next musical chapter. In a revealing interview on the Ride Bynd podcast, Root shared that the band is overflowing with creative energy, already sitting on a massive stockpile of "at least 50" song arrangements.

Addressing the massive resurgence of nu-metal across platforms like TikTok, Root acknowledged that musical trends move in cycles, but clarified that Slipknot is not aiming to capitalize on that specific wave. "Which is wild, 'cause the new shit we're writing does not sound like that at all," Root explained. "There’s elements of it... but you’re not gonna hear—for lack of a better term—a nu metal record out of us." He added that Slipknot has always defied easy categorization. "To me, I think we're just Slipknot. We're just Slipknot music. I don't think there is a box."

This latest writing process marks a stark departure from the typical computer-centric demoing styles. According to Root, the group is utilizing a highly organic, garage-band approach. Setting up in a church, he and new drummer Eloy Casagrande engage in raw, free-form jam sessions while percussionist M. "This sounds like nothing I've ever heard before, yet there's a familiarity to it that feels like I've been listening to it my whole life," Root shared, describing the new material as containing some of his fastest grind-picking riffs alongside heavy, doomy segments, clean interludes, and experimental elements.
