Korn frontman Jonathan Davis surprised fans at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Thursday night, joining legendary X Japan leader Yoshiki for a stunning, classical reimagining of the 1998 nu-metal anthem "Freak on a Leash".

The special appearance took place during the opening night of the highly anticipated "Yoshiki Classical in Los Angeles" residency, which features the iconic Japanese pianist-drummer performing alongside a full orchestra. For the performance, Davis delivered a mostly restrained and subdued vocal style before ramping up to his signature aggression toward the climax of the track. Yoshiki accompanied him on the piano before transitioning over to the drum kit to drive home the song's intense finale.

The multi-night event continues at the same venue tonight, where Yoshiki will command a second sold-out orchestral performance.

Marilyn Manson has deployed "Front Toward Enemy" as the second official single from his highly anticipated upcoming studio album, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2. In a thematic nod to the track's title—which references the famous warning stamped on military claymore mines—Manson has also launched a specialized "the claymore" vinyl variant of the record.

The exclusive vinyl pressing is highly limited, with only 1,800 copies being released worldwide. Fans looking to secure a copy can find it available for purchase through Nuclear Blast via the official release link.

While One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2 is scheduled for a late summer arrival on August 14th, collectors who purchase "the claymore" vinyl variant will have to wait a little longer to spin it, as that specific pressing is slated to ship on September 18th.

The Pretty Reckless frontwoman Taylor Momsen has shared a deeply emotional statement on Instagram mourning the tragic passing of her longtime bodyguard, confidant, and close friend, Mason Haynes. According to an online memorial fundraiser, Haynes recently passed away following a traffic accident at the age of 52.

"Mason Haynes was my family, my protector, my confidant and one of my closest friends," Momsen wrote, reflecting on the profound, unique bond formed over years of constant companionship on the road. "When someone knows every dark secret about you and never judges, spends 24 hours a day with you seven days a week, you form a bond that is hard to explain."

Momsen remembered Haynes not just for his protective role, but for his deep character, intellect, and personal values. "He was a powerful giant with the softest heart of anyone I knew," she continued. "Smart as a whip, artistic and most importantly he was always putting others needs first. His advocacy against bullying ran deep within him. I will miss him in a way I can’t explain."

In addition to sharing her love and condolences with Haynes' family, Momsen has urged anyone who is able to donate to a GoFundMe campaign established to honor his memory and support his loved ones.

"I love you Mason, I can’t believe I’ll never hear your voice again," Momsen added. "You were truly one of a kind."

The city of Birmingham, UK, has officially announced the first-ever "Ozzy Day" on Wednesday, July 22nd, to honor the life, music, and roots of the late Ozzy Osbourne. The pioneering Black Sabbath frontman and Aston-born rock legend tragically passed away one year ago on July 22nd, 2025, at the age of 76. To celebrate his enduring legacy, a free public program of live music, public art, special performances, and shared moments will transform locations across the city center into a living memorial. The event is a massive collaborative effort between Central BID, OPUS, the Birmingham City Council, Birmingham New Street, and Westside BID.

Fans and visitors can explore iconic landmarks tied to Ozzy's history using Central BID's "Celebrating Black Sabbath in the City" trail map. The five-piece brass band Bostin Brass—who performed at Ozzy's funeral procession last year—will bring the music of Sabbath and Ozzy back to the streets with pop-up shows at New Street Station, outside the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Selfridges, the Black Sabbath Bench, and Martineau Place. Additionally, musicians from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) will deliver a special lunchtime performance outside Selfridges in the Bullring.

Throughout the day, visitors can capture the moment with free commemorative Polaroid photos alongside a specially dressed "Ozzy the Bull" at Birmingham New Street Station. The Birmingham Music Archive will also be stationed at New Street to invite fans to contribute their personal stories, memories, and reflections to a commemorative guestbook that will become part of the day's lasting legacy. Fans will also have the opportunity to visit the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero exhibition to view his iconic throne.

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has confirmed that the metal titans are currently in the studio working with renowned producer Matt Wallace on their next musical chapter. In a revealing interview on the Ride Bynd podcast, Root shared that the band is overflowing with creative energy, already sitting on a massive stockpile of "at least 50" song arrangements.

Addressing the massive resurgence of nu-metal across platforms like TikTok, Root acknowledged that musical trends move in cycles, but clarified that Slipknot is not aiming to capitalize on that specific wave. "Which is wild, 'cause the new shit we're writing does not sound like that at all," Root explained. "There’s elements of it... but you’re not gonna hear—for lack of a better term—a nu metal record out of us." He added that Slipknot has always defied easy categorization. "To me, I think we're just Slipknot. We're just Slipknot music. I don't think there is a box."

This latest writing process marks a stark departure from the typical computer-centric demoing styles. According to Root, the group is utilizing a highly organic, garage-band approach. Setting up in a church, he and new drummer Eloy Casagrande engage in raw, free-form jam sessions while percussionist M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan and Wallace listen in to pick out and build structures in real time.

"This sounds like nothing I've ever heard before, yet there's a familiarity to it that feels like I've been listening to it my whole life," Root shared, describing the new material as containing some of his fastest grind-picking riffs alongside heavy, doomy segments, clean interludes, and experimental elements.

French metal juggernauts Gojira have announced that founding drummer Mario Duplantier is unable to travel to the United States for the band's upcoming festival appearances due to an immigration issue.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the band revealed that Mario is completely heartbroken and fought hard to find a solution to make the trip. To ensure the shows go on, the group has recruited highly talented Paleface Swiss drummer Luigi Paraventi to step behind the kit on incredibly short notice.

Making light of the perfect coincidence of swapping one "Mario" for a "Luigi," Gojira added a classic gaming nod: "Player 2 has entered the game — RESPECT!"

Paraventi will be handling drum duties for the band's immediate U.S. performances, which include Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, followed by Upheaval Festival in Michigan and Inkcarceration in Ohio this weekend.
