Music icon Lionel Richie is recovering after undergoing a heart procedure to treat atrial fibrillation following a series of onstage health scares during his recent tour.

A representative confirmed the news, noting that the 77-year-old singer is in good spirits and expected to return to performing after taking time off to heal:

"The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon."

Due to his recovery, Richie's upcoming shows with Earth, Wind & Fire—September 26 in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago, and October 2 in Columbus, Ohio—have been canceled. The cancellations follow a summer run disrupted by medical concerns, including an incident in St. Paul where Richie stopped a performance early after experiencing dizziness, and a precautionary hospitalization in St. Louis in late August.

Richie is currently slated to return to live performances next month for his Las Vegas residency, scheduled to kick off October 14.

After taking a pause in 2026, Boardwalk Rock is officially returning to the Ocean City Inlet from May 14–16, 2027.

Organizers originally announced in late 2025 that the rock festival would sit out 2026 due to challenges that arose when two planned headliners dropped out, making it difficult to assemble a full, top-tier lineup in time. However, officials confirmed Tuesday that the event is locked in to make its comeback with promoter C3 Presents:

“While we are disappointed to take a pause in 2026, we are fully committed to working with C3 Presents to bring the festival back stronger than ever in 2027," said Ocean City Business Development Director Tom Perlozzo.

The return builds on the momentum of the inaugural 2025 edition, which drew massive crowds to the beach with a lineup featuring heavy-hitters like Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Nickelback, and Def Leppard. Alongside Ocean’s Calling and Country Calling, the festival remains a flagship event for the resort town.

Lineup announcements and ticket details for 2027 will be revealed in the coming months.

Falling In Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke has stepped in to defend System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian after portions of the SOAD fanbase voiced anger over Tankian’s appearance on the new single, "Joseph."

The heavy collaboration, which arrived September 14 alongside a music video directed by Jensen Noen, marks the first time Tankian and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor have ever joined forces on the same recording. However, the release triggered blowback across social media, with some System of a Down listeners calling the feature an unwelcome surprise and voicing frustration over Tankian and Taylor associating with Radke.

Radke addressed the hostility aimed at Tankian directly, delivering a concise defense of the singer:

"Serj is a good man. Leave him alone."

"Joseph," titled after Radke's own middle name, represents Falling In Reverse's first new release in over a year and continues to spark debate across the metal community as listeners react to the historic pairing.

Judas Priest founding bassist Ian Hill was forced to sit out the band's London concert at the Eventim Apollo after suffering a badly damaged tendon in his left arm.

The band announced the news via social media, confirming that Uriah Heep bassist Dave Rimmer—who also plays alongside guitarist Richie Faulkner in Elegant Weapons—would step in so the show can proceed:

"Ian has a badly damaged tendon in his left arm so unfortunately he won't be able to play at our Hammersmith Apollo Eventim show on Monday 21st September....our good friend Davey Rimmer (Uriah Heep) will be playing with us so the show will go on. Ian sends his grateful appreciation to our fans for your caring and understanding."

Hill remains the sole original member of Judas Priest since their formation in 1969. The band is currently traveling on their 2026 "Faithkeepers" world tour in support of their 19th studio album, Invincible Shield.

Former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum has addressed the possibility of a band reunion with Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale on lead vocals. While Sorum expressed enthusiasm for the idea, no formal announcement regarding a Velvet Revolver reunion has been made. He noted that he remains uncertain about the current plans of former bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan.

Sorum has spent much of the past year publicly reflecting on the band's legacy and feels their story remains unfinished. He believes the group had the talent and momentum to reach a level comparable to Guns N' Roses before their eventual dissolution.

Rock revivalists Dirty Honey have officially announced their third full-length studio album, Catch My Butterfly, set to arrive on January 15, 2027. Produced by John Feldmann (Blink-182, Korn), the upcoming 14-track effort marks the next evolution in the band's gritty, authentic sound.

To launch the new era, the trio—frontman Marc LaBelle, guitarist John Notto, and bassist Justin Smolian—released two contrasting singles simultaneously: the high-octane riff-rocker "Lights Out" and the soulful, acoustic-driven "Butterfly."

Frontman Marc LaBelle reflected on reaching the three-album mark and the growth behind the record:

"I'm very proud of our perseverance. Any band has to really survive to make a third record. We've made mistakes in the studio, gotten over past regrets, lived more, and become better songwriters. All of those things snowballed into 'Catch My Butterfly'."

LaBelle also revealed the personal, emotional subject matter driving the title track, which tackles the realities of addiction from the outside looking in:

"There are addiction issues in my family. I tried to write from a different perspective — either that of a father to an addicted child or the family member of an addict. In this scenario, you're so overcome with worry about whether or not your loved one is alive or dead at any given moment. My thought was, 'If you don't get high, there's no way that you're going to catch this person who is so beautiful in your eyes, but so broken at the same time.'"

A Place To Kill, the industrial project featuring Richard Patrick (Filter, ex-Nine Inch Nails) and Jim Louvau (There Is No Us), has officially announced its second EP, APTK2, arriving November 13, 2026, via Patrick's No Pulse Records.

To kick off the release, the duo will drop the lead single and music video, "Keep My Name Out Of Your Mouth," on September 25. The upcoming six-song follow-up to June's self-titled debut sees the pair leaning further into punishing metal rhythms, aggressive industrial production, and dual vocal deliveries:

"Super proud of this new EP. It's even heavier and crazier than the first one. The post-apocalypse never sounded so good," says Patrick.

Louvau noted that the overwhelmingly positive reaction to their initial release spurred them straight back to work:

"We were so overwhelmed at the response we received after we released the first EP that we wanted to get back into the studio as soon as possible to work on the follow-up and give people more new music — and to also make it clear that this wasn't just a one-off side project... 'APTK2' sounds more focused, more ferocious, and more pissed off than ever."

A Killer's Confession, fronted by former Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis, has officially announced their sixth studio album, Victim 3, set for release on November 13 via MNRK Heavy.

Marking the final chapter of the band's ambitious concept trilogy following Victim 1 and Victim 2, the upcoming release concludes the dark narrative of a death-row vigilante serial killer. Alongside the album announcement, the band dropped their defiant new single and music video, "Roses," directed by Dusten Boles. Reavis opened up about the message behind the track:

"'Roses' was written from a point of view of where everything that you have done was in vain. We've all been to that point of feeling unappreciated, but I feel like roses is a statement of it doesn't matter what you do as long as you and only you know why you did it. In the end, never look for a pat on the back, because you'll never get the acknowledgment that you're seeking. There will be no roses on my grave."

The band will hit the road this fall on the "Everything Comes Full Circle Tour" alongside Dizasterpiece and Dead Things, launching November 4 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and wrapping up December 5 in Lakewood, Ohio.

At 95 years old, pop culture legend William Shatner boldly went where he had never gone before, making his live debut with his newly formed heavy metal outfit, *The uckers, during a Riot Fest aftershow at Park West in Chicago.

Serving as a warm-up for his appearance at Douglass Park, Shatner took the stage alongside an all-star lineup of rock and metal veterans—including musical director/guitarist Marcus Nand, bassist Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol), guitarist Britt Lightning (Vixen), and drummer Fred Aching (Kings of Thrash). The set featured heavy reinterpretations of iconic classics like Ozzy Osbourne’s "Crazy Train," Motörhead’s "Ace of Spades," and Metallica’s "Enter Sandman," as well as previews of his upcoming project.

Reflecting on stepping into the genre, Shatner embraced the sonic shift with his trademark humor and curiosity:

"I have explored space. I have explored time. Now … I explore distortion."

The performance serves as an appetizer for Shatner's forthcoming album, What The F Is Heavy Metal?, via Cleopatra Records, which is slated to feature guest contributions from heavy metal royalty including Tony Iommi, Brian May, Rob Halford, and Dave Lombardo.
