Poison drummer Rikki Rockett is celebrating a monumental milestone, announcing that he is officially ten years cancer free. Sharing the update via social media today, July 13th, Rockett reflected on his intense 2015 diagnosis of Stage 3 HPV-related oral squamous cell carcinoma. After an agonizing initial three-month regimen of radiation and chemotherapy failed—causing him to lose 30% of his body weight and allowing the cancer to progress to Stage 4—Rockett famously refused a surgical recommendation to remove his tongue and instead sought out an experimental clinical immunotherapy trial at the Moores Cancer Center in San Diego.

The trial proved to be near-miraculous. Within just nine weeks of starting the immunotherapy infusions, scans revealed his tumors were 90% gone, and he was declared entirely free of the oral cancer just 18 weeks into the process. Though the trial had to be cut short after Rockett developed a separate cancer, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), that too was successfully driven into remission with a daily targeted medication. "Folks, I beat two forms of cancer!" Rockett shared, noting that the experimental drug he tested has since become a routine, life-saving treatment worldwide. He also used the milestone to urge awareness around HPV-related cancers, advising parents to get their children inoculated.

Fans will soon get a much deeper look into his incredible survival story, as Rockett confirmed these experiences are heavily featured in his highly anticipated memoir, Ghost Notes: My Life In Poison. Bill Ward has shared a deeply emotional tribute to his longtime bandmate and lifelong friend, Ozzy Osbourne, marking the upcoming one-year anniversary of the singer's passing on July 22, 2025. Speaking on LA Radio Sessions with Mike Stark, the legendary Black Sabbath drummer reflected on the profound loss of the heavy metal icon. "Ozzy forever. That's what I wanted to say today. While many of his peers double down on incorporating political views into their live sets, Mick Jagger has a completely different philosophy when he takes the stage. Appearing as a guest on the New York Times podcast The Interview, the legendary Rolling Stones frontman explained that he views his role in the live music world as a provider of ultimate escapism, rather than a political commentator.

When prompted to contrast his relationship with live audiences against the styles of artists like Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen, Jagger emphasized that a performer must read the room and adapt to the venue. Ultimately, he believes a concert should function much like a high-energy sporting event. "The bottom line... is that my job in [the] live music world is to [make sure attendees] have the best time they possibly can... [and] to forget all their problems and the problems of the world," Jagger explained. "Their mortgages and whatever... Everything else is shut out... You don't want to lecture them."

That doesn't mean Jagger avoids the state of the world entirely—he just prefers to keep it confined to the studio. While discussing the band's latest studio album, Foreign Tongues, the rocker admitted he has developed a few songwriting "tricks" over the decades to blend personal narratives with social commentary. "I’ve also gotten into this habit of doing songs that are about personal relationships and then I throw a verse about politics in there," Jagger revealed. "Nobody wants to hear a whole song about politics... or social comment of any kind."

Mary Morello, the iconic activist and mother of Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, has passed away at the age of 102. Tom Morello shared the news of his mother's passing earlier today, July 12th, on his Instagram account. Alongside a photo honoring her memory, the legendary musician beautifully captioned the post: "Mary Morello is forever with the Rebels of Light & Song. (1923-2026)".

Born in 1923, Mary Morello lived an extraordinary, impactful life dedicated to education, anti-censorship, and radical social justice. A former high school history and social studies teacher, she famously stepped away from her 22-year teaching career in 1987 to found Parents for Rock and Rap. The grass-roots organization was created in direct opposition to Tipper Gore’s Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) to fearlessly combat artistic censorship in music. Her tireless defense of creative freedom earned her the prestigious Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award in 1996. Beyond her advocacy in the music world, she was heavily active in the Civil Rights movement, global literacy programs, and anti-war campaigns. Over the years, she also became a beloved fixture at Rage Against the Machine and Prophets of Rage concerts, taking the microphone to enthusiastically introduce her son's projects as "the best fucking band in the universe."

Coal Chamber drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox underwent what his medical team hopes will be his final cancer-related surgery yesterday, July 10th. Cox, who went public with his battle in April 2025 after being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, has successfully completed radiation, chemotherapy, and previous surgeries. Having recently been given the "all clear," this latest procedure was a corrective measure intended to "put the rest of my insides back together."

While the surgery was a massive success, the scheduling of the procedure forced Coal Chamber to officially withdraw from their highly anticipated slot at this fall's Louder Than Life festival so Cox can prioritize his health. In a raw post-surgery update shared today, July 11th, the drummer didn't sugarcoat the grueling physical reality of his immediate recovery. "I’m in a ridiculous amount of pain and I have a massive hole in my stomach that will act as a drain and heal itself," Cox revealed. "They also had to cut my ab muscle and sewed it back together so that is pain every time I breathe."

Despite the intense immediate discomfort, Cox remains incredibly optimistic and driven. He is shifting his focus to physical therapy, working to regain his full walking ability and manage ongoing neuropathy and joint pain. "I’ll be ready to go full steam in a few months!" Cox declared, sending a massive thank you to his family, friends, and fans for keeping him motivated through the darkest parts of his journey. "I can’t wait to finish recovering, get healthy, and get back where I belong—on stage with Coal Chamber."

As of yesterday, July 10th, the album's Grammy-nominated track “Caramel” has officially been certified platinum, moving over 1,000,000 units. Simultaneously, the Even In Arcadia non-single track “Dangerous” has officially reached gold status, representing 500,000 units. These milestones follow a highly successful month this past May, which saw "Caramel," “Emergence,“ and “Damocles” all secure initial gold certifications.
