Speaking in a video posted to his Shim's Rockstar Academy Instagram page, the singer reflected on how his perspective has evolved over the last decade regarding why the alternative rock outfit fractured at the height of their mainstream success. Moore candidly confessed that the core reason for the breakdown of his band—and almost any collaborative relationship—is simply that the members stopped valuing one another as individuals as they grew older. Moore explained that while the group started with a singular, shared goal when they initially met in high school, more than a decade of touring and maturity inevitably transformed them into different people with entirely separate values. Rather than communicating openly and making space for those evolving personal needs, the members allowed history and baggage to block their communication, creating an environment where they became defensive and stopped listening to each other.
