Sammy Hagar took a moment to pay tribute to Eddie Van Halen in honor of his birthday today (January 26.)

Hagar shared via social media, “I’ll never forget the first time Eddie and I played on stage together. It was Farm Aid 1985 in Champaign, Illinois. I sure do I miss this guy! Happy Birthday, Eddie. #YourMusicWillLiveForever.”

This is Van Halen’s first birthday since his death in October at the age of 65 following a long battle with cancer.

Hagar said in a recent interview that a tribute concert in honor of the late Van Halen is something that will likely happen once the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

“It’s gotta happen. Of course, it’s gonna happen,” said Hagar. “No one’s really connected all the dots with everyone involved, but I have been told, and I have read interviews with various people involved — with Wolfie [Wolfgang Van Halen] and Valerie [Bertinelli] and Eddie’s wife [Janie] that he was married to at the time — they all said as soon as this is over, we’re gonna get everybody together and do a tribute or whatever. Just a ‘thank you,’ a goodbye, a send-off.”
