Listen to Korn’s New Song About Addiction, ‘Take Me’

Korn burst onto the hard-rock scene in the mid 1990s, helping to usher in a rap-flavored subgenre known as nu metal. The band attracted a large international following by blending aggressive, heavy music with probing, introspective and angry lyrics from frontman Jonathan Davis.

It’s been 22 years, 40 million in album sales and two Grammy wins since the Bakersfield, Calif., band released its self-titled debut album, but Davis and crew are still battling their demons on their 12th studio album, “The Serenity of Suffering.” “Take Me,” one of the songs on the upcoming collection, premieres exclusively below.

Davis has said that the album is about his tortured relationship with suffering, that it makes him feel safe and, as the title says, serene. “Take Me” ties into the over-arching theme of the album by focusing on addiction. The song takes the point of view of the substance, however, not the substance abuser. Davis has cited country artist Brad Paisley‘s “Alcohol” as a key influence on the writing of “Take Me.”

“The Serenity of Suffering” will be released Oct. 21, two days before Korn wraps up its current U.S. tour leg and a month and a half before the band heads to the U.K. for several dates.
