A new movie reboot of the classic ’60s sitcom The Munsters is reportedly in the works, and Rob Zombie is heavily involved with the project.

MovieWeb.com reports Zombie has been tapped by Universal Pictures to write and direct the film reboot. The project will reportedly begin filming in May and feature Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, cast as Lily Munster.

At the time of publishing, Universal Pictures nor Zombie have officially confirmed the film.

The Munsters aired on CBS for two seasons from September 1964 to May 1966. During that same time frame, ABC aired the similar style family sitcom The Addams Family.

The Munsters, while playfully spooky in nature, still presented itself in the same wholesome family sitcom style that was very popular in the 1960s. With that considered, the decision for Zombie to write and direct the new film reboot has raised plenty of eyebrows due to his history of writing and directing very graphic gore-centric horror films.
