We’ve seen a lot of artists being incredibly creative during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue promoting their music – but leave it to the UK rockers Royal Blood to come out with a whole new concept. This weekend you’ll be able to catch Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher as AVATARs. That’s right, you heard me right….AVATARS.
The pair will be performing their new single “Limbo” as part of an award ceremony presented by the gaming company Roblox. The Bloxy Awards will take place this Saturday, March 27th at 3pm EST and the company claims it will “take attendees through four distinct environments on a voyage across the roblox Metaverse”. The company promises an “exclusive virtual performance from Royal Blood in a space-themed concert venue”.
Watch the trailer below to get an idea of what the band’s virtual avatars will look like:
Royal Blood is set to release their third album Typhoons on April 30 via Warner. Lately, you’ve heard the title track plus first single from the band, “Troubles Coming”, playing here at 93.3 WMMR.
We were pretty bummed when MMRBQ 2020 had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak; Royal Blood was set to rock the BB&T Pavilion with us that day. For now, we’ll absolutely take this avatar version of Royal Blood as a replacement. Welcome to 2021 folks.
