A new Gorillaz song is finally here! After months of teasing new material, we’ve finally received the group’s first single in six years. It’s titled “Hallelujah Money” and features UK vocalist / songwriter Benjamin Clementine.
The release comes paired with a trippy video in which Clementine appears in front of various backdrops that range from cartoons to clowns to old westerns. The soulful tune has a peaceful, cinematic backing with what sounds like some of Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn’s vocals in the background. The beat switches a couple times throughout the song, incorporating hard-hitting kick drums and gentle, funky synthesizers.
Gorillaz epic return has shown fans multimedia stories which brought them up to speed on the animated band member’s backstories ,as well as new mixes and interviews with the members who’ve been hinting at music coming soon. “Hallelujah Money” fittingly arrives the night before Donald Trump’s inauguration as the group tweeted, “Dark time – u need someone to look up to … Here’s a lightning bolt of truth in a black night. Now piss on! New stuff won’t write itself.” Enjoy!
