Kurt Cobain is being honored by Fender with the return of the Jag-Stang guitar Cobain designed and used during the Nevermind tour and in the iconic video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
The Jag-Stang guitar is being released in honor of the upcoming 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s landmark second album, Nevermind. Fender noted in a press release, “The late Kurt Cobain was seen playing a variety of Fender® guitars over the years. Aligned with his unique creative expression, Kurt had designed a one-of-a-kind JAG-STANG® guitar, combining his favorite elements of both his Fender® Jaguar® and Mustang® guitars, a unique combo that only Kurt has ideated.”
Fender added, “This Jag-Stang® comes equipped with the same features that made it Kurt’s ideal instrument. As per Kurt’s 1993 specs, the instrument features an alder body, 24” short scale length, 7.25” radius rosewood fingerboard and vintage-style single-coil and custom humbucking pickups. The Mustang® guitar slider switches provide the flexibility to dial in four distinct settings for a variety of in- or out-of-phase tones – perfect for recreating Kurt’s classic punchy guitar sounds.”
The Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang will go on sale in October, is available for right and left-handed guitarists and comes in two colors: Fiesta Red and Sonic Blue. Full specs are available at Fender.com.
