Pepsi and The Super Bowl have teamed up to release a teaser for the forthcoming halftime spectacular. The ad features all of this years’ performers—Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar—as well as a drop of 2Pac’s “California Love.”
Songs featured in the preview include Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s “Still Dre,” Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s “Next Episode,” Eminem’s “Rap God,” Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair,” Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.,” and the aforementioned “California Love.”
The beginning of the clip features a chess board that reveals a room beneath it, in which Eminem is pulling lyrics out of thin air. Eventually, all of the main players are revealed, hyping up the event for eager audiences around the world.
Dr. Dre initially announced the news back in September via Instagram. The show is set for February 13, 2022 at SoFi Stadium Stadium in Inglewood, California. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar will be putting on a show-stopping performance.
The show is set to be produced by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and is presented by Pepsi in conjunction with the NFL and NBC. Regarding the initial announcement, Dre said, “I’m extremely excited to share the stage with my friends for the #PepsiHalftime Show. This will introduce the next saga of my career… Bigger and Better than Ever!!!”
Fans are eagerly guessing to see who will be promoting new music during the show. Rumors abound about new tunes from Kendrick Lamar, mostly spurred on by his own activity. The MC has been teasing new music, though in typical Kendrick fashion, the message has been enticingly cryptic. Back in August, the MC re-emerged and shared a new website for something called “Oklama,” which Kendrick confirmed is the title of his new album. When, exactly, that will be, is up for debate. Perhaps we’ll learn more next month.
