Three rock stars died on this date and joined the 27 Club.  July 3rd is a crazy day. We lost Rolling Stone Brian Jones in 1969 Jimi Hendrix in 1970, and  Jim Morrison in 1971.

Brian Jones

Brian Jones, a founding member and original leader of the rock band The Rolling Stones in 1969. He  was born in Cheltenham, England, in 1942, and started playing music when he was a kid. He was a multi-instrumentalist who played guitar, harmonica, saxophone, and other instruments.  Jones was fired from the Rolling Stones in 1969, shortly before his death. He was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool at his home in Sussex, England. The cause of death was ruled an accidental drowning, but there have been many theories about his death, including suicide and murder.

Still to this day they are one of my very favorite bands.

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix, one of the most influential guitarists of all time, died in London, England, after overdosing on drugs. He was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1942, and rose to fame in the late 1960s with his band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience. They released three albums in quick succession, all of which were critical and commercial successes. Hendrix became a star, known for his wild stage performances and his flamboyant appearance.

Jim Morrison

James Douglas Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, was born on December 8, 1943, in Melbourne, Florida. He died on July 3, 1971, in Paris, France, of a heart attack. His death was officially ruled a heart attack, but there have been many conspiracy theories about his cause of death. He is buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, where his grave is a popular tourist attraction.

Moreover, other musicians who have died at 27 including  Robert Johnson on August 16, 1938, Janis Joplin on October 4, 1970, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan of the Grateful Dead in 1973, Kurt Cobain on April 5, 1994, Amy Winehouse on July 23, 2011, Alvin Lee of 10 Years After on March 6, 2013 and  Kristen Pfaff of Hole on June 16, 1994.

As I was growing up I could not see growing old and figured that I would die around 27. Weird huh?
