Miranda Lambert Announces New Album, ‘Postcards from Texas’ Hannah Zwick

Triple Grammy winner and Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Miranda Lambert has announced her newest album, Postcards from Texas. The 14-track project seeks to highlight the sounds of the Lone Star State, promising “yearning ballads to discordant rockers, sparkling acoustic songs and steel guitar-soaked laments.” The record will arrive on September 13th, and marks her first full-length release for Republic Records.

Alongside the album announcement, Lambert has shared the jaunty, tumbling single “Alimony.” “I called that lawyer up in Dallas, the one who’s livin’ in that palace / So I know he’s good at winnin’, if you think there’s somethin’ that you’re missin’…” she sings.

Lambert remembers of the day she, Shane McAnally and Natalie Hemby hit a creative streak and came up with the track.  “We went back to the house and got the guitars, and I specifically was like, ‘I want a shuffle, man.’ I love to shuffle so much, and this record needed a shuffle! I knew I wanted one in my set, because I haven’t done one in a while – and everybody loves a shuffle.”

Citing her childhood as inspiration, Lambert shares, “My parents were private investigators in Dallas, Texas who worked a ton of divorce cases in highfalutin parts of town, so this wasn’t hard to write. I’d heard about it my whole life. And once we had the line – If you’re gonna leave me in San Antone, remember the alimony – we were off! We used every Texas metaphor we could come up with on purpose; we wanted to take something kind of shitty and put some humor back in it. I mean, the guy gets out pretty easy if all he does is move back in with his mom.”

“Alimony” follows two previously-released singles,Wranglersand Dammit Randy.” Lambert worked with Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Jon Randall to assemble a musical dream team for the singles and the album.
