Alessia Cara has announced the title and release date for her anticipated new album. Love & Hyperbole, Cara’s fourth full-length LP, will be out on Feb. 14, 2025. While fans await the full project’s Valentine’s Day arrival, the pop and R&B star has offered them a preview in the form of new single “(Isn’t It) Obvious.” The track features a guitar solo from John Mayer and is accompanied by a music video directed by Gordy De St. Jeor.
Cara wrote “(Isn’t It) Obvious” with Yakob, who also produced the track. The music’s casual, effervescent R&B feel is a perfect match for lyrics about an undeniable affection. “Fears are only constellations,” Cara sings, “only glowing if we make them.” “(Isn’t It) Obvious” follows July’s release of the brassy, soulful “Dead Man,” the public’s first taste of Love & Hyperbole. “If ‘Dead Man’ is about emotional distance, then ‘(Isn’t It) Obvious’ is about being physically apart from someone but reminding them how much you love them,” Cara explains.
Cara revealed Love & Hyperbole’s title and release date Monday on Good Morning America. Immediately after making the announcement, she gave “(Isn’t It) Obvious” its debut performance. The song was previewed earlier this month in the Season 26 premiere of Law & Order: SVU. In an Instagram post about the forthcoming album, Cara wrote, “I’m so happy to finally share this with you and I can’t wait for you to hear the rest of what I feel is my best work to date—or at least my personal favourite.”
Love & Hyperbole will arrive a decade after “Here,” Cara’s debut single, which reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, she has continued to release hits including “Scars To Your Beautiful,” the Zedd collaboration “Stay,” and “1-800-273-8255” alongside Logic and Khalid. In 2018, she became the first Canadian to win Best New Artist at the Grammys. Her sophomore album The Pains of Growing won Album of the Year at the 2020 Juno Awards, where Cara was also named Songwriter of the Year.
