“Carpool Karaoke” — a popular segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden — is really a grand ol’ time, and there’s good reason why it’s internet catnip these days. It’s fun, innovative, and takes musicians and other celebrities into a space that they’re not known for: The car as a stage. But, as they say in some rooms, life happens on life’s terms; meaning, you cannot predict what will happen on a day-to-day basis. While “Carpool Karaoke” is certainly a segment worth celebrating, what occurred during the filming of the latest installment with the Red Hot Chili Peppers was almost tragic.
Kiedis explained the heroic incident during an interview on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, as transcribed by NME:
We danced off, we tied and then we were going to celebrate with some Mexican food on the corner. And a woman came out of her house, holding a child saying ‘My baby, my baby, my baby can’t breathe!’ We all ran across the street, the woman thrust the baby into my arms, the baby was not breathing and I thought ‘I’m gonna try and do a little baby CPR real quick, see if I can get some air in this kid.’ Tried to open the mouth, [it was] like locked shut. So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles came out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place, the ambulance showed up and I handed the baby over, who was now breathing and fine, and we went back to Carpool Karaoke.
So, not only is Anthony Kiedis a fantastic singer and artist, he’s a damn national treasure at this point. Continuing with the “Carpool Karaoke” filming — in-between taking a break to save a baby’s life — is instant karma points for the Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman. See you in heaven, good sir.
