Billie Joe Armstrong revealed which Green Day song he thinks is the band’s best, as well as other notable thoughts on the band’s lengthy catalog.
Armstrong offered up his opinions in a new interview with Vulture where he named “Jesus of Suburbia” as his pick as the best Green Day song.
“It’s so epic. I mean, I’m tooting my own horn, but I think it encompasses so much about my life and friendship and family, and it’s flamboyant and big and bombastic,” said Armstrong. “It’s one of those moments where I was feeling like I wanted to take a big risk. It’s so fun to play live, seeing how the entire crowd sings along. It’s just one of those songs.”

The whole article is worth reading but one of his most surprising responses came when asked which Green Day single did he not expect to be successful.
“I never expected ‘Basket Case’ to be a single,” said Armstrong. “I think I would have probably chosen, like, ‘Burnout’ or ‘She,’ something like that. Thank God I got outvoted for that single.”
While we don’t know who exactly overrode Armstrong on that decision, it’s safe to say most of us can thank them for that one.
