Country star Billy Currington has released a new song called “King of the World.” Written by his late collaborator Troy Jones, the track captures a relaxed summer vibe. Currington sings, “I got the radio playing and my boat while I float/Take a toke while I listen to Merle,” over a smooth guitar melody. The song is out now on Mercury Nashville.
This summer, Currington is hitting the road with fellow country artist Kip Moore, who released his album Solitary Tracks earlier this year. Their U.S. tour includes 16 stops in major cities. Notable dates include August 2 at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater and September 19 at Boston’s MGM Music Hall. They will also perform at Ohio’s Voices of America Country Music Fest on August 7. The tour features Marlon Funaki, an up-and-coming guitarist known for his soulful and psychedelic rock sound. Funaki released an EP titled Overdue in March.
Over his two-decade career, Currington has scored 12 No. 1 country singles, including hits like “People Are Crazy” and “Good Directions.” He debuted in 2003 with his self-titled album, featuring songs that reflect his personal experiences. His last album, Intuition, came out in 2021 and explored ’80s synth-pop and R&B. In 2023, he released two songs, “Anchor Man” and “City Don’t,” returning to his traditional country roots. Last year, he shared “Everything Is Changing,” a nostalgic look at time passing, along with a compilation of his top hits, #1’s Vol. 1.
