Bono and The Edge Perform at Ukrainian Bomb Shelter

Bono and The Edge performed a set at a Ukrainian bomb shelter over the weekend after being invited to perform by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Per Ireland’s RTE, the performance took place in a subway station in Kyiv that now acts as a bomb shelter in the country that is still fighting invading Russian forces. Bono and The Edge said in a brief statement via Twitter, “President Volodymyr Zelensky invited us to perform in Kyiv as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and so that’s what we’ve come to do.”

The bomb shelter set included a moving performance of the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me” where Bono and The Edge were joined by Ukrainian soldiers, which can be viewed below.

Bono addressed those in attendance saying, “Your president leads the world in the cause of freedom right now. The people of Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom; you are fighting for all of us to love freedom.”
