Genre-bending producer/singer/songwriter Chiiild has released an Amazon Original cover of Kid Cudi’s iconic hit, “Day ‘N’ Nite.”
This version of the song finds the LA-based polymath putting his own twist on Kid Cudi’s breakout hit and was released as the final song in Amazon Music’s series of Amazon Originals celebrating the next generation of Black artists for Black History Month.
Chiiild has made a name for himself occupying a space typically not representative of Black artists within the alt/pop genre. Chiiild uses music to tell stories about diversity, ask questions about humanity, and unify people over shared personal experiences. Taking influence from music as diverse as D’Angelo, Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, and Marvin Gaye, he’s created an expansive timeless sound that is uniquely genre-bending yet still somehow reminiscent of something you’ve heard or felt before. His debut album, Hope for Sale, released last year on Avant Garden/4th & Broadway, has been hailed by critics, and Chiiild was recently named as a Breakthrough Artist for Amazon Music in Canada.
Chiiild’s Amazon Original bookends Amazon Music’s series of brand-new Amazon Originals for Black History Month. The series kicked off earlier this month with a brand-new cover of OutKast’s “Prototype” from up-and-coming Wisconsin newcomer and Chiiild’s Avant Garden labelmate, Unusual Demont. Last week, Amazon Music released a new, reimagined version of Muni Long’s smash hit, “Hrs and Hrs,” which found the multi-hyphenate singer/songwriter performing the song with a full backing band—saxophone and all. To celebrate the release of the track, Amazon Music also released a never-before-seen video of Muni Long and her band performing the new version of the song on an LA rooftop.
In other news, Chiiild, Lola Young, EST Gee, and more were recently announced as Vevo DSCVR’s “Artists to Watch” for 2022. Vevo’s DSCVR ATW will showcase engaging, high-quality live performance video content from the class of 2022, with two unique performances from each artist, shot exclusively for Vevo.
