DANGER MOUSE & BLACK THOUGHT: DEBUT ALBUM, CHEAT CODES, OUT NOW

DANGER MOUSE & BLACK THOUGHT

DEBUT ALBUM CHEAT CODES OUT NOW

New Video for “Strangers” Feat. A$AP Rocky & Run The Jewels Out Now

“Black Thought is one of the greatest rappers ever. On Cheat Codes, the duo’s impressive talents complement each other exquisitely.”
– New York Magazine’s “25 Notable New Releases…”

“It’s not a return to form; it’s a reminder that Danger Mouse and Black Thought are the type of artists who define the form.”
– Consequence

“The album feels both modern and vintage—a swirl of distant touchstones happening all at once.”
– Pitchfork

“The mere news of a Black Thought album would’ve been enough to draw buzz, but the fact that he’s linking up with superproducer Danger Mouse for his solo sophomore effort should excite any hip-hop head.”
– Vulture’s “36 Albums We Can’t Wait to Hear This Summer”

“Everything we love about [Black] Thought today is, paradoxically, what kept him under the radar for so long… Now he’s back with Cheat Codes, his excellent new album with Danger Mouse.”
– Stereogum

“Not only flexes Danger Mouse’s creativity as a producer, but the always impressive bars of Black Thought, a rapper who has remained consistently excellent”
– HipHopDX

“Black Thought and Danger Mouse get together and incredible music is the result!”
– AllHipHop

“Danger Mouse and Black Thought both bring their A-game… Danger Mouse’s subtle production quirks shine in his collaborations with rappers, and this is no exception.”
– Paste

Named one of the most anticipated albums of the summer by New York Magazine, Pitchfork, Brookyn Vegan, Stereogum,  AV Club, HotNewHipHop, Paste and many more, at long last, Danger Mouse & Black Thought’s debut album, Cheat Codes, is available now across all platforms.

The “Two music legends” (Consequence) have celebrated their release day by delivering a video for “Strangers” directed by UNCANNY and featuring A$AP Rocky & Run The Jewels. The atmospheric black and white DIY rollercoaster ride that is the “Strangers” video features Black Thought, A$AP Rocky, Killer Mike and El-P passing the mic—or in this case their phones— over a Danger Mouse beat “packed with dusty, clattering drums and the relentless thrumming of some uncanny synth or sample” (Rolling Stone). Set to quick cuts that echo Danger Mouse’s unrelenting pulse on the track, the visual realization of “Strangers” jumps with rhythmic urgency from the POV of “four of the best lyricists of our time” (Paste).

Cheat Codes, the debut album from Brian Burton and Tariq Trotter AKA Danger Mouse & Black Thought, is a sprawling opus featuring a peerless roster of guest luminaries including A$AP Rocky, Run The Jewels, Michael Kiwanuka, Raekwon, Joey Bada$$, Russ, Conway the Machine, the late MF DOOM, among others However, Cheat Codes is an album that — despite the brilliance and seeming complexity of its array of sounds, moods and top notch guest vocalists — is actually quite restrained. The natural chemistry between Brian and Tariq comes through in the ease with which the artist and listener move through this album. Moreover, it’s an album untethered to any genre, era or trend — uncategorizable and timeless.  It is the sound of the pair observing their own culture and asking questions they still may not have the answers to… but they undoubtedly have (dangerous) thoughts.
