There’s nothing like a car sing-a-long with your mom as evident in a new preview clip of the Paramount+ series From Cradle to Stage.
In the clip below, Dave Grohl and his mom, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, are in a car and they’re singing the Carly Simon classic. Or at least, they attempted to. After the mother and son have a quick laugh about their semi-botched harmonies, Dave begins talking about how “You’re So Vain” still blows him away before Virginia cuts in to express a minor frustration.
“I can’t understand why you never got as excited as I did about Manhattan Transfer,” says Virginia. ” Because that’s where their genius is, that they get four, five-part harmonies in ways that are really hard to duplicate.
Dave then fires back with, “I don’t know, but I used to get high under that bridge over there.”
As previously reported, From Cradle to Stage is a six-part premiering on Paramount+ on May 6. The series is based on the book of the same title written by Virginia Hanlon Grohl. The six musicians chronicled in the series are Miranda Lambert, Brandi Carlile, Geddy Lee, Pharrell Williams, Tom Morello and Dan Reynolds, along with their mothers.
In a statement released with the series’ trailer, Dave said, “I believe that the relationship between a musician and their mother is so important because it’s the foundation of their understanding of love, which is surely every artist’s greatest muse.”
Dave continued, “Having the opportunity to travel the country and tell the stories of these amazing women behind the curtain not only shed some light on the music that they inspired, but also made me appreciate the love that I was given from my own mother, my best friend. It goes without saying that we are all indebted to the women who have given us life. For without them, there would be no music.”
