Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 looks back on his 2014 hospitalization

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley recently opened up on social media about his 2014 hospitalization for liver failure caused by alcoholism. He reflected on his past, saying, “It’s very well documented that 12 years ago I was in really rough shape. In a hospital bed, dying of liver failure.”

Whibley shared that he has made a remarkable recovery. “What some people might be surprised by is how well I’ve managed to turn my life and health around,” he wrote. He acknowledged that he “dodged a bullet” and walked away without any permanent damage, thanks in part to his age at the time and the resilience of the human body.

Since then, Whibley has committed to significant lifestyle changes. He claims his body now feels “almost 8 years younger than my actual age.” Looking ahead, he plans to make further improvements by 2026. “I’m not trying to do any ‘biohacking,’ just practicing healthy discipline and consistency,” he explained.

His message is clear: “Anything is f possible. Just stay persistent.”

Sum 41 wrapped up their farewell tour in January and played their final show in March after being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In addition to his music career, Whibley has launched a new clothing brand called Walking Disaster.
