Eddie Vedder Takes Aim at Motley Crue During Solo Gig

Eddie Vedder continued his war of words with Motley Crue at a recent stop on his current solo tour.

During his show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on February 6, Vedder took a moment to introduce Chad Smith, who serves as the drummer in the Pearl Jam singer’s solo backing band. In the fan-shot video below, Vedder says, “That drum kit — that silver, beautiful machine that he is the engine of — does not need to elevate or rotate to do its job. Let me just point that out.”

Vedder started all of this during an interview with The New York Times where he said, in part, “You know, I used to work in San Diego loading gear at a club. I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to — bands that monopolized late-’80s MTV. The metal bands that — I’m trying to be nice — I despised. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and Mötley Crüe: [expletive] you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous.”

This quote got back to Nikki Sixx who wrote via Twitter, “Made me laugh today reading how much the singer in Pearl Jam hated @MotleyCrue. Now considering that they’re one of the most boring bands in history it’s kind of a compliment isn’t it? #TheStadiumTour #RocknRoll

Sixx didn’t stop there. When a fan replied saying, “My best friend is about to have a baby, I will recommend Pearl Jam songs to put the baby to sleep hahahaha,” Sixx replied back with, “Or just sing to the baby with marbles In your mouth…Very zen.”

Furthermore, when someone quote retweeted Sixx’s initial comments with, “Made me laugh today reading how much of a loser you are nikki by posting this twt like a p—- when u have at most 3 mid songs at best LOL i hate u,” Sixx replied, “You’ll be fine. Remember there were zillions of brown haired bands for brown haired fans…..Go find them. You will know them by the bored look on their face.”

After Sixx’s comments, Pearl Jam shared the video below of a raucous crowd at one of their shows along with the caption, “We [heart] our bored fans.”
