Erykah Badu is hitting the road again to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her iconic album, *Mama’s Gun*. The second leg of her tour kicks off on October 3 at the Hollywood Bowl, with Westside Gunn opening the show. This exciting celebration will run through October, November, and December.
Before these anniversary shows, Badu toured with the Alchemist, promoting their collaboration “Next to You,” which was released in June. Those concerts took place across North America in August.
Originally released in 2000, *Mama’s Gun* is considered one of the most influential albums in modern music. In a 2021 interview, Badu reflected on its impact, saying, “These are my kids. They heard it. They internalized it. It’s a language that I thought only I knew.”
Producer Mark Ronson also praised the album, calling it his favorite from that era. He noted its unique blend of influences and how it stood out among other great records from that time.
With *Mama’s Gun*, Badu solidified her place as a leading voice in R&B. After taking time off to raise her first child, she returned to the studio to create her second album, focusing on love and her relationship with Andre Benjamin. She embraced a more organic sound and addressed the experiences of Black womanhood.
