Exploring the Iron Maiden Documentary ‘Burning Ambition’ in Depth

A new Iron Maiden documentary is set to reveal never-before-seen facts about the legendary band. Guitarist Adrian Smith shared that he recently watched “Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition,” which will hit theaters on May 7 for a limited time. He mentioned, “There are a few things in there that have never come to light before, and it goes into depth on a few topics. I think it’s a great document of the band, and fans will enjoy it.”

Smith admitted that watching the film on the big screen made him want to hide behind the chairs, but he left feeling happy with what he saw. The documentary, directed by Malcolm Venville and produced by Dominic Freeman, covers the band’s incredible five-decade journey. It features appearances from stars like Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, and Chuck D.

Iron Maiden, founded in East London in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, has released 17 studio albums, sold over 100 million records, and performed nearly 2,500 concerts in 64 countries.

Smith also talked about “Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams – The Official Visual History,” a hardback book released in autumn 2025 that chronicles the band’s first 50 years. He expressed his love for the old photos and shared stories from Steve Harris’s diary, highlighting the band’s early struggles, like earning just a few bucks for a show and counting pennies for guitar strings and gas.

When asked if he and singer Bruce Dickinson took the band to new heights, Smith credited Dickinson’s hard work and dedication to performing night after night.

The documentary comes as Iron Maiden continues its two-year “Run For Your Lives” world tour, which includes over 50 shows worldwide in 2026, with a stop at EddFest in Knebworth Park, England, on July 11.
