Foo Fighters Bring Surprise Guest Onstage at Outside Lands

Who doesn’t like a good surprise? Foo Fighters brought a surprise guest onstage during their set at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival 2023 last weekend.

Foo Fighters’ Surprise Guest

That guest performer was pop superstar Michael Bublé. This may sound like an odd combination, but the crowd ate it up.

According to EW, Dave Grohl and Bublé had a bit of a joke over the whole thing. The Foo Fighters usually invite an audience member to sing Bublé’s 2009 chart-topper “Haven’t Met You Yet” during their show. It’s part of a medley of cover songs they do in their set. But, Grohl has said that people often don’t know the words of that particular song.

Addressing the audience at Outside Lands, Grohl reportedly said, “At the last couple shows, I always look out and someone’s like, ‘I know the Bublé song. I’ll come up and sing it.’” But, “Every time someone says they know this song, they don’t know the f—ing song.”

So, what’s a band to do? Bring up Bublé, of course. The covers medley also included covers of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” Devo’s “Whip It” and Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs.”

So, Grohl searched for someone to sing the Bublé song. Bublé was actually in the audience holding an “I heart Bublé” sign. “Hold on, we got a super fan — he’s got the ‘I love Bublé!” Grohl said. “This motherf—er better know the song.” Then, he surprisingly (and jokingly) said, “Oh my God, it’s Michael Bublé!”

He added, “I’m just gonna tell you something, and I’ll make it f—ing quick because we don’t have a lot of time. For real — we’ve been doing that thing where people from the audience come up and say, ‘I know the f—ing song,’ and they walk up, and they’re like, ‘I know the first verse.’ They don’t know it!”

Grohl continued, “So this badass motherf—er — and I’m not even kidding — flew in today from Argentina to f—ing sing that song to you guys. Because there’s no such thing as taking a joke too far.”
