Foo Fighters: Why They Covered ‘Stairway’ At Festival Gig

Foo Fighters headlined the Ohana Festival on October 1. The set was rather unique because it featured the band briefly covering, of all songs, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”

During the set, there was some sort of issue in the audience where someone needed medical attention. Ever the professional, Dave Grohl adlibbed and killed some time while the issue was taken care of.

As anyone would (note the sarcasm), Grohl starts playing the intro to “Stairway.” In the fan-shot video below, you can see on his face he’s wondering, “Oh, no…am I going to have to play this whole song? What have I done?”

Eventually, the issue in the crowd was resolved. Grohl then says, “Is that situation figured out? Great, thank God, ’cause that’s a f—ing long-ass song. It gets awkward when it speeds up. Like you’re making out, and all of a sudden it speeds up, and you’re like, ‘What do I do with my girlfriend at this f—ing dance now?’”
