Ghost have unveiled their cover of the Metallica classic “Enter Sandman.”
The song appears on “Metallica, the tribute set honoring the metal band’s seminal 1991 Black Album. Blacklist arrived in full Friday (Sept. 10), along with a remastered and expanded reissue of the original record.
Ghost aren’t the only ones covering “Enter Sandman.” “Weezer” and Colombian musician Juanes already released their versions of “Enter Sandman,” while a range of other artists, from “Volbeat” to “Miley, have also posted their versions of Metallica songs from the tribute package.
Ghost nails “Enter Sandman,” with the Swedish metal band offering huge, dramatic harmonies, eerie keys and a double dose of guitar. Listen to Ghost’s version of the song via YouTube below.
Ghost frontman Tobias Forge is a big Metallica fan and recently put together a Metallica-inspired playlist for Apple Music. When discussing the Metallica song “The Thing That Should Not Be,” Forge named it “one of Metallica’s darker songs, almost more in line with death metal. Definitely not the norm if you listen to the [entire Metallica] catalog. It’s slightly different in tonality, which makes it stand out, and makes it super heavy and evil. Very Lovecraftian lyrics. This song has been a huge inspiration of mine for over 30 years.”
