Live music is taking over the world! A new report shows that it has surpassed sports, movies, and even sex as the top form of entertainment. The study surveyed 40,000 people in 15 countries and highlights a big change in how we spend our time and connect with each other through live shows.
According to the report, 39% of people say if they could only pick one type of entertainment for life, it would be live music. Even more surprising, 70% would choose to see their favorite artist live over having sex!
For many fans, music is a huge part of their identity. About 85% say it defines who they are, and 84% feel that live experiences give them the most joy. What they wear and share at concerts helps them express themselves and bond with others.
Concerts are becoming important life milestones. Around 75% of fans plan their schedules around shows, and one in four have even gotten tattoos to remember a live music experience. Nearly 80% believe concerts bring their families closer together.
Music truly knows no borders. In 2024, fans traveled 40 billion miles for concerts—equivalent to 83,000 trips to the moon! A whopping 71% of people listen to artists in languages they don’t speak, and 84% feel that live music brings people together across cultures.
Fans are also boosting local economies. Nearly 60% travel for shows each year, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and shops. Concerts are driving tourism and economic growth in many areas.
In a world filled with digital distractions, 93% of fans attend shows for real experiences, and 80% prefer spending money on experiences rather than things. For most, concerts are the most emotionally charged shared experiences out there.
Live music is now a key part of global culture, where attention, loyalty, and influence come together. What used to be just entertainment is now a vital part of our lives.
