Gracie Abrams Recruits Aaron Dessner Of The National For ‘Rockland’

Gracie Abrams has shared her new single, “Rockland,” which was co-written with and produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner. The song is the latest in a slew of upcoming tracks, according to the artist.

Over gentle finger-picked guitars, Abrams ruminates on a fractured relationship, singing: “Hey, who took my place in bed when I left?/Who laughs at everything that you’ve said?/I’m sure that I would like her/If I were slightly nicer.”

The track is accompanied by a lyric video set to footage of woodlands, postal vans driving down quiet, leafy streets and a candid shot of Abrams herself.

“‘Rockland’ comes out Friday … and then the rest soon,” Abrams tweeted on Wednesday (October 20), hinting at the imminent arrival of more new music.

The new single follows the rising star wrapping up her first tour in London this week. The musician played two shows at the city’s Omeara venue, with both gigs selling out straight away. The dates also included US concerts in LA and at festivals including BottleRock Napa, Firefly and Austin City Limits. Abrams will return to the road in February for a North American tour.

The release of the new track follows another new single from Abrams, “Feels Like,” which was released on October 1. The track was produced by Blake Slatkin, Carter Lang, and Abrams. It finds the single revisiting the smallest of details as she recounts a narrative of falling in love.

Produced by Blake Slatkin, Carter Lang, and Gracie, “Feels Like” emerges as one of the most euphoric tracks yet from Abrams, a 22-year-old songwriter who first broke through with her quietly heartbreaking 2019 single “Mean It.” With its beautifully minimalist sonic palette, “Feels Like” finds Abrams revealing new textures of her mesmerizing voice as she shares a detailed narrative of falling blissfully in love.
