Jack White recalled a brief meeting he had with Prince and the piece of advice the late music icon gave to him.

In a sit-down interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, White mentioned meeting Prince at an after-party event once and the two of them talked about guitar playing. So, what was that sage advice Prince had for White?

“Don’t let anyone tell you how to play your guitar.”

When pressed on whether he took Prince’s advice, White said, with a laugh, “No, [but] one of your sound guys told me to turn down earlier, so maybe.”

White has partnered with the Prince Estate for his Third Man Records to distribute the unreleased 1986 album Camille. White mentioned to Colbert that the album’s tracks have been released or surfaced in a variety of way, but they’ve never been issued as a proper album release.

Per Rolling Stone, “The fabled ‘Camille’ came about as Prince began experimenting with pitch-shifting his vocals, and he planned to release the album under his feminine alter-ego, ‘Camille.’ While a handful of test-pressings of the album were made, a full release was ultimately scrapped.”

A release date of Camille from Third Man Records is not currently known.
